OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE

At St. James we offer a number of different areas to volunteer. Below is a list of those opportunities and descriptions of each opportunity follow.

 

ACOLYTES

Who:

All children 5th thru 8th grades

Meeting:

Meets once per year for training purposes

Group Mission:

To assist in the worship service and serve the Lord.

Regular Activities:

Lighting and extinguishing candles on Altar and candelabras at each service.

ALTAR GUILD

Who:

For men & women confirmation age or older

Meeting:

Annual meeting Oct/Nov, 6:30PM, Fellowship Room

Group Mission:

To prepare the church for each service

Regular Activities:

Care and placement of communion ware, paraments, banners, flowers, candles and seasonal decorations. (This is done in groups of 4 people who serve for one month.)

Special Activities:

Coordinating acolyte schedules. Once yearly cleaning of brass/silver. Overseeing maintenance of acolyte robes.

BIBLE STUDY

Meeting Information:

Sunday morning 9:15-10:15AM (various classes) Tuesday morning 9:30-11AM (women) Fellowship Rm Tuesday evening 7-9PM (LifeLight) Fellowship Room Thursday morning 10-11 AM (men) Fellowship Room

Group Mission:

To grow In our relationship with God and each other through Bible Study. To grow in knowledge, in faith and in love, so we can be examples for our children in making Bible Study a priority in our lives.

Regular Activities:

Various areas of the Bible and topics for short periods of time, usually 8 to 12 weeks.

Special Activities:

Once yearly a Bible Institute is held by the Lutheran churches in the area on 3 successive Sunday evenings before Lent. Life with God classes are held three times a year for members and non-members to review the basics of the Christian faith from a Lutheran perspective.

Every Wednesday during the school year - 3-5:15PM, Fellowship Room Group

Group Mission:

Teach children to grow closer to Jesus, build relationships with others, show how to face worldly challenges

Regular Activities:

Bible study, crafts, cooking, music, service projects, recreation, snacks

Special Activities:

Appreciation treats for church workers and teachers, quilts for nursing home residents, serve meal to senior citizens of the congregation, holiday parties, year-end program/meal

Short business meeting with devotions; Bible based programs/speakers; fellowship and refreshments at close of meeting; yearly fundraising events

To See and Share Jesus through the Christian instruction and encouragement of the youth (pre-school thai high school) of the congregation

Meet every Sunday for Bible Study and praising the Lord

Special Activities:

Make Alleluia banners for use in the church sanctuary. Recognize Mother's and Father's Day. Observe Ascension Day with balloon release. Rally Sunday activities (Bible Blast-off). Christmas program.

To provide benefits to fellow Lutherans, Lutheran congregations in region, and the community at large

Matching funds for such things as disaster relief, educational needs, church beautification projects

Special Activities:

Providing funds to help obtain food supplies for distribution to needy families, volunteer help in construction/beautification projects at area churches, financial help for Lutheran Child and Family Services
